Climate Update Archiv Eine wöchentliche Presseschau zu allen Aspekten der Klimakrise aus der Schweiz und der ganzen Welt zusammen. Die Beiträge sind thematisch sortiert und lassen sich nach Themen und Schlagwörtern filtern. Jede Woche empfehlen wir eine Handvoll besonders interessanter Beiträge.

Diese Woche sind wieder die Hitze, die Trockenheit sowie die verheerenden Waldbrände in Frankreich, Spanien und Griechenland Hauptthema. Aber obwohl die Klimakatastrophe immer offensichtlicher wird, müssen wir auch diese Woche über Leugnung und Anti-Klima-Politik berichten. Die EU will das wichtigste Instrument ihrer Klimapolitik abschwächen, die neue Regierung Grossbritanniems will aussenpolitisch eine Führungsrolle übernehmen – aber auch die Ölförderung in der Nordsee ausbauen. Und aus dem Hause NZZ verlinken wir einen Kommentar, der an Wirrheit kaum zu überbieten ist.
Und während Südeuropa brennt, leidet Südasien unter Extremniederschlägen.
Hilft das Recht? Rechtsprechung und Diplomatie können sich ergänzen, schreibt Klimareporter. Es ist an der Zeit, Klimaverbrechen strafrechtlich zu verfolgen – mit Gesetzen, die bereits existieren, findet der Guardian. In Frankreich ist eine Klage gegen den Ölkonzern Total hängig und in den USA wollen die Republikaner Big Oil davor schützen, für die Schäden, die sie anrichten, Verantwortung übernehmen zu müssen.
Und es gibt ja nicht «nur» das Klima: Laut einem UN-Bericht wird die Welt 22 von 23 Umweltziele für das Jahr 2030 verfehlen. Und vom 1. Januar bis zum 30. Juli hat die Welt die Ressourcen aufgebraucht, die für das ganze Jahr hätten reichen müssen.
