Gegen Ende des Hitzesommers spitzt sich die Trockenheit weiter zu – was vor allem den Wäldern schwer zusetzt – und wegen der harten Böden und den warmen Meeren drohen Übschwemmungen. Die Städte sind auf die Hitze schlecht vorbereitet und fordern Massnahmen auch von der Bundespolitik. Derweil will der Bundesrat keine Gelder für Klimabeobachtung des EU-Programms Copernicus ausgeben. Verschiedene Parlamentarier:innen melden sich zu Wort oder diskutieren in Talksendungen (wobei Leute wie SVP-Präsident Dettling zeigen, dass sie den Ernst der Lage noch immer nicht begreifen wollen), in der Herbstsession wird eine Sondersitzung zu Hitze & Trockenheit stattfinden und am 19. und 25. September finden in der ganzen Schweiz Demos statt: «Keine 50°-Sommer».
In der Mongolei hat der UN-Gipfel COP17 zur Wüstenbildung begonnen.
Wald- und Moorbrände in Belgien, Kroatien, Griechenland und Deutschland – und trotz all der Katastrophen nimmt die Klimaignoranz zu, nicht ab. Was man dagegen tun muss: besser kommunizieren. Der Satz «Das Klima geht uns alle an» bringt nichts – wie es besser ginge und wie man nicht in die Fallen des Kulturkampfs tappt.
Schliesslich ein Gespräch über Low Tech – denn natürlich brauchen wir technische Lösungen, aber die können auch einfach sein.
