Diese Woche gibt es gleich vier Hinweise auf lesenswerte Bücher – nicht nur für jene, die noch in den Sommerferien sind.
In «Captured Futures: Rethinking the Drama of Environmental Politics» beschreiben Maarten A. Hajer und Jeroen Oomen, warum Umweltpolitik scheitert, wenn wir weiterhin die Krisen in den Fokus stellen und nicht bessere Geschichten erzählen.
In «Brennende Erde» zeigt der Historiker Sunil Amrith, weshalb wirksamer Naturschutz nur möglich ist, wenn gleichzeitig soziale Gerechtigkeit angestrebt wird.
In «Goliath's Curse: The History and Future of Societal Collapse» (erscheint im September) kommt Luke Kemp zum Schluss, dass ein globaler Zusammenbruch bevorsteht, wenn die Ungleichheit nicht beseitigt wird.
Und in «Practicing Social Ecology: From Bookchin to Rojava and Beyond» zeigt Eleanor Finley das Potenzial für gesellschaftlichen Wandel, das in unseren Gemeinschaften schlummert.
Nicht nur Bücher geben diese Woche zu reden: Eine neue Studie zeigt, wie wirksam lokale Initiativen CO2-Emissionen reduzieren können. Und Planet Critical fragt, ob Gewaltlosigkeit angesichts jahrzehntelanger Proteste mit wenig Wirkung der einzige Weg für mehr Klimaschutz ist?
Im Zollstreit mit den USA könnte die Schweiz den Klimaschutzrückzieher der EU wiederholen: Offenbar will der Bundesrat US-Präsident Trump mit der Zusage gütig stimmen, Flüssiggas zu importieren. Und der Energiekonzern BP hat vor der Ostküste Brasilien die grössten Öl- und Gasvorkommen seit der Jahrtausendwende entdeckt und prüft, diese zu fördern.
