A Species out of Context

This is the thirteenth of 18 installments in the Metastatic Modernity video series (see launch announcement), putting the meta-crisis in perspective as a cancerous disease afflicting humanity and the greater community of life on Earth. This episode unpacks the great Wes Jackson aphorism that modern humans are a species out of context. Well, what’s the right context, and how are we out of it?

Rewilding the Commons

It’s hard to make sense of the world: a world of so much abundance, and so much senseless violence. There is so much division and hatred in this world in which its inhabitants were once all the same cell. What does meaning mean anymore when we reject the most fundamental of truths? Very little. And I fear meaninglessness and violence go hand in hand—that’s why we call it “senseless”.
